Thursday night, 20 September 2007

The Doctor (and his hair) was awoke out of a sound sleep by the sound of fine pebbles hitting the porch outside. Letting Chase sleep, he poked his head out, dodged a new rain of pebbles, and then quietly slipped on boxers and a shirt before going downstairs and outside.

His hair, still sleepy, lay flat and slightly wavy against his head. "Jack," he said softly, squinting in the waxing half-moonlight. "What're you doing here?"

Jack looked vaguely stunned and looked down into his cup. "That was the plan, unless you have something else," he smiled. The Doctor's words had all but fallen on deaf ears.

[identity profile] sortofaman.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Which meant that either Jack had a really good case of denial going on, someone had wiped his memory, or there was island magic that was playing tricks. "Uh," he said, supposing there wasn't much he could do. "Dunno," he said, "we could talk."

[identity profile] captainjack.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
"I could get us something good if I had James's wand. Or any wand. Did Rob use a wand?"

[identity profile] sortofaman.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
"I got one," the Doctor said. He snuck back upstairs, then back down with a wand that was made of polished dark wood, almost with a blue tinge.

"Leave it to you to have nicer wod than Wilson," he smirked, taking it from the Doctor and pointing it at the table. "I want hypervodka," he said, swishing it a little.

A lovely crystal bottle appeared, with two chilled martini glasses.

"Easier than you'd think, huh?"

[identity profile] sortofaman.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Is that Amarian crystal?" the Doctor asked, squinting at the bottle through his specs. "Damn, always knew you had expensive tastes. And of course I'd be nicer than Wilson." It was a point of honour.

[identity profile] captainjack.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Looks like," he nodded, pouring half a glass for both of them. No need to get bombed before they could even talk. Jack passed the Doctor his and raised his glass. "To Partners," he smiled, looking as if he was just about ready to kiss him.

[identity profile] sortofaman.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Indeed," the Doctor said, but he wasn't within distance even after the toast, making darn certain of that. His hair looked a bit stern.

[identity profile] captainjack.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
A look proved to be just a look and Jack took a long, slow sip. "God, that's good. Last time I had it was New Year...remember?" he grinned. "Did I ever tell you about the time I had four before going to my execution?"

[identity profile] sortofaman.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah," the Doctor said, "and you slept with the executioners? Kept in touch, too, wasn't it." He smirked a little and sipped carefully. "Rather I had that power than just running fast."

[identity profile] captainjack.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Never underestimate running fast," he laughed. "I've gotten out of plenty of scrapes by doing just that."

Jack settled into the couch, getting comfy and semi-horizontal before the liquor kicked in. "You sure you don't mind if I sleep here? Just tonight."

[identity profile] sortofaman.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Nah, it's cool," the Doctor said. "You want to crash in Romana's room, there's a bed there." He took another sip. Hypervodka, dear god.

[identity profile] captainjack.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
"That's one I've never been in," he purred, draining his glass. "God, I love this stuff. Too bad we can't figure out how to make it here. Or anywhere near Earth. You know." Jack laughed and leaned forward to pour another measure, guaging his sobriety by how much the floor rippled.

[identity profile] sortofaman.livejournal.com 2007-09-22 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
The Doctor waved off a second glass for now. "Well, it's a little hard considering you have to be inside a star going nova," he drawled.

[identity profile] captainjack.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
"There is that," he laughed. God, he felt good. At this rate, he may just keep that bottle filled. He looked over at it, and surprisingly enough...the level was where it had been before he decanted any at all.

[identity profile] sortofaman.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
The Doctor, not certain what was going down, shrugged and finished his drink. "You ever have the martini at the Oyster Bar in New11 New York?" he asked.

[identity profile] captainjack.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't think so. I don'tthink I ever got quite that far. Not a lot of battles in that era," he said, taking a deep breath. God, he felt good

[identity profile] sortofaman.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
"They had this bartender there, Suzy. And if you offered to buy her a drink after she was off duty, she'd break out these lemons that she'd filled with the hypervodka and use those to make the best martini Earth ever saw."

[identity profile] captainjack.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Is that so?" Jack asked, melting a little deeper into the cushion. "What did you get after you two had drinks?"

[identity profile] sortofaman.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
"She slipped something into the Marquis de Longe's Harvey Wallbanger for me," the Doctor said. He smirked.

[identity profile] captainjack.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Jack snorted. Of course...he and the Doctor would always have differing agendas. "Good work," he smiled. "Suzy...I'll have to remember that."

[identity profile] sortofaman.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm sure," the Doctor said, "that she'd be happy to oblige your wants as well, Jack, mate." He stretched.

[identity profile] captainjack.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, but she isn't here, and you are, and I've got all I want right here," he drawled.

[identity profile] sortofaman.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Jack," the Doctor said, drawling his name in that way that indicated that he was sorry, but no.

[identity profile] captainjack.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
He rolled his eyes. "Don't talk to me like that," he sighed.

[identity profile] sortofaman.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Like what?" the Doctor asked, brows raised.

[identity profile] captainjack.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
He blinked and tried to focus on one of the three Doctors before him, settling on the middle one. "Like I'm Wrong," he replied.

[identity profile] sortofaman.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
The Doctor didn't quite know what he meant, and since he'd had just enough hypervodka to not remember the conversation that he'd seen on the reel, he blinked. "Uh. You want some water?"

[identity profile] captainjack.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Might be a good idea, yeah," he smiles at the Left Doctor. "Water between drinks."

[identity profile] sortofaman.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
The Doctor's hair moved slightly off kilter as he stood up and got Jack another glass of water. "Maybe more than between drinks. You're gonna get the hangover from hell."

The hair nodded.

[identity profile] captainjack.livejournal.com 2007-09-23 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not if I just keep on drinking," he grinned, the hair more than a little distracting. "You know what I miss, too? Good champagne."

[identity profile] sortofaman.livejournal.com 2007-09-24 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
"You can't drink forever, Jack," the Doctor said. He poured water for himself and drank it.

[identity profile] captainjack.livejournal.com 2007-09-28 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
"I c'n try," he slurred, then tipped back the entirety of the new drink. He blinked as three doctors became six became nine, and when he blinked, he didn't open his eyes again.

Maybe the Doctor was right after all. It was very hard to keep drinking once you'd passed out.

[identity profile] sortofaman.livejournal.com 2007-09-28 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
The Doctor heaved a long sigh and shuffled off to get a light blanket, draping it over Jack. He set a pitcher of water nearby, but not close enough to get knocked over, and sighed again, before heading upstairs to bed.

Something was very off.
